Autumn Equinox — Balance in A Day
Yesterday was the Autumn Equinox (here in the Northern Hemisphere) a day in which there are equal hours of day and night. This day of balance is a threshold into a new season and the halfway point between the summer and winter solstices, between the longest day and the longest night. With the intention of tapping into equilibrium, I made time for a quiet decluttering of my mind and my home in order to make space for what I’d like to welcome into my life with the change of season.
Fall is the season of surrender. Change is in the air. Days are blustery and the light filters through windows at a golden slant that stretches toward the darker months ahead. This is a time to draw close, to pull out sweaters from their summer slumber and polish favorite boots till they are buttery soft. They will walk me through this season of surrender. Like the trees who give up to the wind what they no longer need, brilliant leaves, melting jewels that curl and crinkle like paper bags line drying. Gently they detach and flutter to the ground. Each leaf, purposeful till the end, becomes rich compost making space for new growth.
I pulled out a new notebook to journal in. It’s an A5 spiral notebook with a cover in parchment brown that matches the scattering leaves of the season. Leaves that sweetly surrender to what comes next. I got cozy on the sofa and journaled to my Fall Journal Prompts: what in your life needs more space? what are you surrendering?
Do you find that you journal more in the Fall?
