Making a List of Simple Pleasures

fragments from my daily notebook.

Here is a (non-exhaustive and ever-growing) list of simple pleasures that, for me, make the ordinary extraordinary:

an emerging silvery moon

hands wrapped around a warm mug of coffee (tea or hot chocolate) on a cold morning

velvety sand underfoot

birdsong

the fuzzy edges of dawn breaking

a pencil scrawling across the page

contagious laughter

deep breaths

hand-carved spoons

plush socks

hope

billowing linen curtains

Do you keep a list of simple pleasures? If you don’t, what if you made one now — three simple pleasures off the top of your mind:

1)

2)

3)

Done.

Keep adding to your list. Watch it grow. Feel your gratitude expand.
